Netflix has announced Dogfight, a stylish revenge action film set in London’s criminal underworld, written and directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jason Statham, with production set to begin in the United Kingdom in early 2027.

Netflix has announced Dogfight, a new revenge thriller that reunites Jason Statham with writer-director Guy Ritchie, the partnership that launched both men’s film careers nearly three decades ago. The film, described by the streamer as a stylish revenge actioner set in London’s criminal underworld, will be the seventh film the pair have made together.

The announcement came on Tuesday, and was reported by Variety and carried across film outlets on Wednesday. Ritchie will write, direct and produce Dogfight, with Statham starring and also producing alongside Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg. Production companies Black Bear Pictures, Ritchie’s Toff Guy Films and Statham’s Punch Palace Productions are behind the project.

Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps. Netflix has not released a logline, has not said who Statham will play, and has not announced any further casting. What the streamer has offered is tone and setting: an action-packed revenge thriller with a stylish twist, featuring what it calls a cast full of colourful criminals and plenty of thrilling action, all set in the London underworld where Ritchie and Statham first made their names.

That setting is the point of the reunion. Ritchie gave Statham his first major screen role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, and the two went on to make Snatch in 2000 and Revolver in 2005. After a long gap they returned to the same territory with Wrath of Man in 2021 and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre in 2023. Dogfight follows their upcoming film Viva La Madness, making it the seventh collaboration in a partnership that has now spanned almost 30 years.

The timing is deliberate. Production is scheduled to begin in the United Kingdom in early 2027, roughly a year after Viva La Madness, and filming will take place in Britain. No release date has been announced, which is unsurprising for a film that has not yet started shooting, but the early announcement signals Netflix’s confidence in the pairing as a repeatable draw rather than a one-off reunion.

Dogfight also deepens Ritchie’s relationship with Netflix. It is his second collaboration with the streamer after the crime series The Gentlemen, a spin-off of his 2019 film of the same name, whose second season arrived on the platform this September. For Netflix, pairing Ritchie with Statham again offers a familiar, audience-tested combination at a time when the streamer is leaning harder into franchise-style action titles with known stars.

For Statham, the film fits a career built on exactly this kind of project: a lean, London-set action story with a director who knows how to use his screen presence. His recent work has kept him at the centre of the action genre, but a Ritchie film carries a different weight for his fans, because it returns him to the director who first cast him as a fast-talking London hustler rather than as an international action hero.

The secrecy around the story is itself part of the pattern. Ritchie’s films often arrive with little more than a title, a star and a setting, and Dogfight is no exception. Whether the revenge at the centre of the film is personal, professional or criminal, and whether Statham’s character is hunter, hunted or both, will only become clear when casting announcements and first-look material begin to appear closer to production.

What can be said now is what the film is not: it is not a sequel, not a remake and not a spin-off. It is a new, standalone story built around a director-star partnership that has already survived three decades, five released films and one more on the way. That longevity is rare in modern action cinema, where pairings tend to last for a single franchise rather than across a career.

Audiences will have to wait for the details, and for the film itself, which is still more than a year from cameras rolling. But the announcement alone answers the question fans have asked since Wrath of Man: whether Ritchie and Statham would keep working together. With Dogfight, the answer is yes, back in London, back in the criminal underworld, and with the same stylish, hard-edged tone that started it all in 1998.
