Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has crossed the Rs200 crore mark at the worldwide box office within two days of its release, trade tracker Sacnilk reported on Saturday, 7 November, as the biggest Indian film opening of the year kept its momentum going into the weekend.
The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita, has collected Rs221.05 crore in worldwide gross in its first two days, according to Sacnilk's figures carried by the Times of India and NDTV. It also passed Rs100 crore in net collections in India on its second day, a milestone few films reach this quickly.
Friday, 6 November, brought Rs48.05 crore net in India across 23,316 shows, down 25.9 per cent from the opening day's Rs64.85 crore net. That took the two-day India net total to Rs112.90 crore and the India gross to Rs134.80 crore. Overseas, the film added about Rs35 crore on its second day, taking its cumulative international gross to Rs86.25 crore, nearly 40 per cent of the worldwide total.
The headline figure carries a small caveat: trade estimates differ slightly between trackers. Bollywood Hungama, which compiles its own worldwide tally, put the two-day global gross at Rs215.73 crore, against Sacnilk's Rs221.05 crore. Both agree on the substance, though: the film cleared Rs200 crore worldwide in two days, and the final official studio figures may yet revise the totals.
Inside India, Hindi remained the engine of the collections, contributing Rs35.50 crore net on Friday from 19,859 shows. The film's other language versions added their own weight: the Kannada version, boosted by Yash's home-market draw, recorded 53.8 per cent occupancy on its second day, according to the Times of India. Overall occupancy on Friday stood at 28.9 per cent, rising to 45.31 per cent for the night shows.
The two-day run builds on a record-breaking start. Ramayana opened worldwide on Thursday, 5 November, in Diwali week, with Rs64.85 crore net in India on day one, the biggest pre-Diwali opening in Hindi cinema, and a worldwide opening of about Rs127.50 crore. Advance bookings had already crossed Rs100 crore before release, and the film sold more than 18.5 lakh tickets on Friday alone.
The scale of the production matches the scale of the opening. Produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, the film is the first part of a two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, with the second instalment scheduled for release during Diwali 2028. The combined budget of both parts has been reported at Rs4,000 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian film projects ever mounted.
The film's overseas performance has been a particular talking point. Marketing positioned the film abroad as a representation of India's history and storytelling tradition, and the international gross of Rs86.25 crore in two days suggests that pitch found an audience well beyond the diaspora markets that usually carry Indian releases.
Trade analysts are now watching the weekend. As of Friday morning, advance sales for the third day had already crossed 13 lakh tickets worth Rs47.46 crore, and several trade reports expect the film to enter the Rs500-crore club worldwide by the end of its opening weekend. Whether it does so will depend on Saturday and Sunday, when family audiences traditionally turn out in the largest numbers during the festive season.
The film has divided opinion in other ways. First-day audiences praised its scale and score, while some viewers questioned individual performances and the handling of the Jatayu climax, a debate that has only grown louder as more people have seen it. But the box office so far suggests the conversation is bringing audiences in rather than keeping them away.
For the industry, the opening is a signal after a mixed year at the box office. A two-day worldwide gross above Rs200 crore, built on a Diwali-week release with five language versions, shows that large-scale event cinema can still draw crowds in huge numbers when the subject carries the cultural weight that the Ramayana does in India.
Figures in this report were checked at 16:21 PKT on 07 November 2026 against trade tracker Sacnilk as reported by the Times of India, NDTV, the Telegraph and Business Today. Box office figures are trade estimates and are subject to revision as official studio data is updated.
