UPSC declares Civil Services Mains 2026 result as 2,526 candidates qualify for the interview stage

The Union Public Service Commission has declared the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 result, with 2,526 candidates qualifying for the Personality Test — the final stage before selection to the IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services.
The Union Public Service Commission has declared the results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, clearing 2,526 candidates for the Personality Test — the final stage of India's most competitive recruitment process. The result, announced on Thursday, 5 November, brings the successful candidates one step closer to the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Foreign Service, the Indian Police Service and other Group A and Group B central services.
The commission published the result as a roll-number list on its official websites, upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in, where candidates can check whether they have qualified. The list carries roll numbers only; no marks or cut-off scores have been released at this stage.
The scale of the selection is stark. A total of 13,343 candidates had qualified for the written examination after clearing the Preliminary Examination, and only 2,526 of them have now made it through the Mains. The written examination was held between 21 and 30 August 2026, meaning candidates have waited more than two months for the outcome.
Shailesh Parmar, bearing roll number 0100823, has topped the written examination, according to reports of the merit list. The commission itself has not published a separate toppers' list; the ranking emerges from the order of roll numbers in the published document.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted every year in three stages. The Preliminary Examination screens applicants, the Main Examination tests them across nine papers worth 1,750 marks, and the Personality Test — the interview — carries a further 275 marks, taking the grand total to 2,025. Final selection depends on the combined score across the Mains and the interview.
For the candidates who have qualified, the next task is administrative and time-sensitive. The commission will open an online facility on 11 November for them to submit or update the information in their application forms, and the window will close at 6 pm on 25 November. Every qualified candidate must complete the form in that window, even if nothing in their application has changed, or they will not receive an e-summon letter for the interview.
The interview schedule itself has not yet been announced. The commission has said the dates will be notified in due course, and the Personality Tests will be held at its office at Dholpur House on Shahjahan Road in New Delhi. The e-summon letters will be made available on the commission's website and its online application portal, and no paper or physical summon letters will be issued.
Qualification at this stage is not the same as final selection. The commission has made clear that the candidature of every shortlisted candidate remains provisional, subject to verification of eligibility conditions and supporting documents. Candidates will have to produce original certificates covering age, educational qualifications, community, economically weaker section and disability status, along with other documents such as the travel allowance form, when they appear for the interview.
The marksheets of all candidates will be uploaded on the commission's website within 15 days of the declaration of the final result, once the Personality Tests are complete, and will remain available for 30 days. Until then, candidates who did not qualify will have to wait to learn their scores.
The result has arrived earlier than last year, when the commission announced the Mains result on 11 November. For the 2,526 who have qualified, the wait now shifts to the interview call; for the far larger number who did not make the list, the examination cycle starts again, with the next Preliminary Examination the only route back into the process.
